This article provides some background on and features, pricing, and specifications for the Bentley Continental GT. This coupe was designed to replace the Continental R and Continental T.
Bentley Motors Limited is a top producer of large and luxurious automobiles headquartered in England. W.O. Bentley, who was previously known for his rotary aero-en fines in the First World War, founded the company, and was responsible for the Bentley BR1.
The 1950's Bentley GT was recently reborn in the form of a 2003 coupe that replaced the previous Continental R and Continental T. The 2005 version of the Bentley GT has a 6-liter, Twin-Turbo, 522 horsepower engine that allows the coupe to race away at 200mph. According to SSIP.net, www.ssip.net, the GT can go from 0 to 60 in 4.8 seconds. The Bentley GT has a six speed automatic transmission, the largest brake disc on any production car, and is the first Bentley to have four-wheel drive, as reported by Wikipedia, en.wikipedia.org.
To add to the dramatics of the GT, the exterior is controversial and distinctive, with an elaborate interior. The car is comfortable, sensible, stylish, and powerful. According to Edmunds.com, www.edmunds.com, the GT's only real drawback is the lack of a Formula One-style manual transmission. The Continental GT features the largest brake disc on any production car at 16 in, and debuted with a waiting list of three years.
The Continental has standard features such as:
- Telematic Systems
- Hands Free or Voice Activated Telephone
- DVD Player
- Front Heated/Cooled Seats
- Driver Multi-Adjustable Power Seat
- Separate Driver/Front Passenger Climate Controls
- Thirty-seven feet of head room
- Cruise control
- Trip computer
- Genuine wood trim
The GT Continental Coupe starts at $145,000.
