The Buick Rendevous was introduced in 2001 as a cross-over SUV that would have the space, height, and image of an SUV, but get better gas mileage and have the smooth ride of a car. A new feature for 2005 Rendezvous is a passenger-sensing system for the right front seat, one which turns off the airbag if it detects a small-size occupant.

The Rendezvous is offered in several different trim levels: the CX, the CX Plus, the CXL, the CXL Plus, and the Ultra, all of which available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. All models come with 185-horsepower, 3.4-liter V6 engines, but the Ultra is equipped with a 242-horsepower, all-aluminum 3.6-liter V6 engine.
