Chevrolet, more commonly known as 'Chevy,' was co-founded by Louis Chevrolet and William Durant, who purchased the majority of General Motor's shares in 1916. Since then, 'Chevy' has been a permanent division of the successful American car company. The Chevrolet Monte Carlo, introduced in 1970, was a large coupe, and Chevy's first real attempt to break into the racing circuit.
The 2005 Monte Carlo line has distinctive styling, and offers an all-new supercharged SS version, which has better handling, a lowered suspension, 17-inch wheels, and a 3.8 liter, 240 horsepower engine. The base LS version has a 3.4 liter V6 engine that gets 180 horsepower. According to Edmunds, www.edmunds.com, the Monte Carlo gets 30 mpg on the freeway, and 20 mpg in the city.
