2005 Honda Insight

Background information, features, pricing, and specifications for the 2005 Honda Insight hybrid. Although a carryover from last year's model, the Insight is as popular as ever.

The 2-passenger Insight Hybrid was the first gasoline/electric car to be sold in the United States when it debuted in 1999. Although most hybrid cars have evolved to look more like regular cars, the Insight retains that 'special' look with its panel-covered rear tires and hatchback. Honda's Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) combines a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder VTEC gasoline engine with an Ultra-thin, 13-horsepower electric motor. This pairing results in EPA mileage estimates of 61-MPG in the city and 66-MPG on the highway. Other key innovations that help the car's efficiency are the lightweight aluminum body and Continuously Variable Transmission that delivers the convenience of an automatic with the performance of a manual.

The 2005 Insight is a carryover from last year's model with no new changes and offers only one trim level.

Base MSRP for the 2005 Honda Insight start at $19,330.
