2005 Maserati GranSport

Background information, features, pricing, and specifications for the 2005 Maserati GranSport sports coupe.

Maserati, an Italian automaker, is well-known for its high-performance luxury vehicles. Once a family-owned manufacturer, its ownership has transferred over the years. Currently, it's owned by Fiat, who owns many other European brands such as Ferrari and Alfa Romeo. Maserati competes with other luxury sports car makers, like Lamborghini and Porsche, because its line is equally exclusive.

One of the few Maseratis in production is the GranSport coupe. It's been one of the longest-standing models in production. Like the Coupe, the GranSport has clean contemporary styling. The exterior is quite subtle when compared to other cars in its class, but the interior is quite sporty. This car is designed to be an everyday car for enthusiasts who want the power without having to display it.

Ray Hutton of Car and Driver, www.caranddriver.com, is happy to report that the GranSport isn't simply a street legal race car, meaning Maserati didn't take the easy way out by making simple modifications to its race car. Hutton writes that the GranSport is the best in this newer generation of Maseratis. Frank Markus of Motor Trend, www.motortrend.com, writes that one of the drawbacks is that no regular stick shift is offered. He finds the Cambiocorsa box shifts are quite quick though.

Standard Features:

  • 4.2 liter V8 engine with 400 horsepower
  • Cambiocorsa paddle-shift manual transmission
  • Skyhook suspension
  • Stability program
  • Automatic slip regulation
  • Electronic brake distribution
  • Cross-drilled Brembo brakes
  • 4-passenger seating
  • Power/leather seats

The 2005 Maserati GranSport starts at $98,172.
