2006 Toyota Matrix

A brief background as well as specifications for the 2006 Toyota Matrix in all its trim levels- the base, the XR, and the XRS. In addition, all trim levels' standard and optional features are discussed.

The Toyota Matrix is deemed a wagon-type sedan based on the Toyota Corolla. Its wagon features include a tailgate that lifts upward with a rear window that can be raised independently of the tailgate. Also, the rear seats and the front passenger seats fold perfectly flat. This allows cargo up to eight feet in length, with a maximum capacity of 53.2 cubic feet. The seats themselves are coated with a hard plastic for easy cleaning.

A 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine with 122 lb-ft of torque is the standard pick for this vehicle on the base and XR trim levels. However, the XRS provides a 164-hp version of the same 1.8-liter engine standard. The base and XR trim levels offer either front-wheel or full-time all-wheel drive (AWD). If you go with the AWD, though, there will be a slight decrease in power (118 hp) and only a four-speed automatic transmission is available. There are no major changes from last year's models.

Base MSRP for the Matrix base trim starts at $15,650 and goes up to $19,640 for the XRS.
