2006 Volvo XC90
Specifications, explanation of advanced safety features, and standard/optional features for the 2006 Volvo XC90. Both trim levels - 2.5T and V8 - are discussed.
Volvo's top-selling model on the market in the United States, The XC90 is Volvo's cross-over, car-based SUV. The XC90 can be ordered in five- or seven-seater models. The previous option has second row seating, while the latter option gets a third row seat. In either configuration, the rearmost seat folds completely flat into the floorboard. Maximum cargo capacity for the XC90 is 92 cubic feet.
The XC90 has (depending on trim level) two available engines: the 2.5T comes with a turbocharged, 2.5-liter, inline five-cylinder that produces 208 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. The V8 trim level comes with a 4.4-liter V8 engine that produces 311 horsepower with 325 lb-ft of torque. The 2.5T trim level engine comes with a standard five-speed automatic transmission, and the V8 trim level comes with a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.5T trim also has optional All-Wheel Drive (AWD), and the V8 comes with standard AWD.
Volvo pioneered some important safety features that make there way into the XC90. Roll Stability Control (RSC) is a system that helps prevent rollovers. When the RSC system senses a rollover is about to happen, it activates the DSTC (Dynamic Stability and Traction Control) to prevent the rollover. If the RSC system is unable to prevent a rollover, the XC90's roof is composed of Boron steel, 4x stronger than conventional steel. Furthermore, the side curtain airbags extend to the rear, rather than covering only the first two rows. Estimated fuel economy for the five-cylinder and V8 models respectively are as follows: 18 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, and 15 mpg and 21 mpg.
Base MSRP for the XC90 starts at $36,335 and goes up to $46,535.
