Mercury is among the most popular American automakers. It's the line created to satisfy consumers who crave the luxury of a Lincoln, but prefer the economy of a Ford. This article discusses Mercury and a few of its top models.
Mercury, an American automaker, was first envisioned by Edsel Ford in the 1930s. According to those at Mercury (www.mercuryvehicles.com), Ford intended for Mercury to provide the luxury of his Lincoln line and affordability of his Ford line. This tradition is carried out even today.
This American line of vehicles began with the Mercury eight, but has since expanded to include several different car classes, such as SUVs and vans. The types of vehicles manufactured change with the needs of drivers. For instance, Mercury used to make wagons but has decided to discontinue that line to design more modern family vehicles, like SUVs. Mercury still has several sedan options as well.
Mercury Montego:
In 2005, Mercury Montego received the 'Best Pick' title for its class from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (www.iihs.org) for its offset frontal crash performance. This model comes in two packages luxury and premier. Both packages come with a 4 valve DOHC Duratec 30 V-6 engine giving this sedan 203 horsepower. According to Jason Fogelson of About.com (cars.about.com), the build quality looks sound. He emphasizes nice paint and good construction. The interior is spacious enough to comfortably fit five passengers who can enjoy the Montego's subtly elegant leather. Mercury has included a spacious trunk as well.
Mercury Mountaineer:
The Mountaineer is one of Mercury's most popular SUVs. The Mountaineer is powered by either a 4.0 liter SOHC V6 or a 4.6 liter SOHC V8 engine, giving it up to 239 horsepower. Either engine is available with each of its three packages, convenience, luxury, and premier. As the SUV market continues to evolve, Mercury has improved certain features and added new improvements to keep up with consumer needs. The professionals at Automobile Magazine (www.automobilemag.com) say some of the improvements include power-deployed running boards, a power fold-down third-row seat, a console-mounted shifter, and many more. This SUV can comfortably transport seven passengers safely and in style.
